Straight and narrow

I really enjoyed this page from Natural Health magazine. The strong verticals typeset in New Helvetica 55, and playful use of color make for a striking page.

The use of the grid and vertical rules provide structure and typographic elements that the major typography aligns with in a very obvious way.

The spread shows how the verticals may have been result of the designer’s observation of the placement of the woman’s arms. This may be wild speculation but undoubtedly the color palette is a result of careful sampling from the photograph.
