Hand crafted type for Epicure magazine

This cover and spread caught my eye because of its unusual hand rendering of typefaces. The man-made appearance of the type works beautifully with the muslin backgrounds and the patterns. Even the magazine’s title has been carefully rendered by hand.

  1. I so enjoy your love of typography, Max. The world is your playground. The students you teach are inspired to “see”— I am sure. After all, isn’t that what it is all about?

  2. This is impressive. Reminds me of Aug 2011 Esquire cover. http://www.esquire.com/cover-detail?year=2011&month=8

    • Hi Stacey. Yes I agree, that Esquire cover is a good one. Esquire magazine’s branding is so strong you can put your hand over their logo and still know what you’re reading.

This design really is eye catching. I love the organic design that goes throughout the whole spread; from the hand rendered typefaces to the floral drawings. Also, excellent use of colors to create an appetizing feel.
