The hard and the soft

I’ve featured this magazine before, and once again the cover caught my eye.

The combination of the hard, bold, all-capital sans serif typeface Trade Gothic condensed, designed by Jackson Burke, makes a delightful contrast to the round, soft calligraphy of the Edwardian Script typeface, designed by Ed Benguiat that spells Sarah Jessica Parker’s name.

And the ingenious arrangement of cover lines results in a striking design that stands out from most other fashion and beauty magazines, creating a strongly branded design.

New Beauty, summer/fall 2012
